What is FUEL?
FUEL
is the first independent youth worship and conference ministry in the state of Oklahoma, located in Lawton! Events
are designed with youth, young adults, and the young-at-heart in mind.
Expect a high-octane worship experience with profoundly impactful music
and always a contextually pure message right out of the Bible.
In Romans 12:11, the apostle Paul wrote,
"Don't burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don't quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality."
This
is the essence of FUEL: getting and staying "on fire" for
Jesus; becoming wise, vigilant Christians; expecting Him to keep His
promises; never giving up; praying hard always; serving one another;
and using everything at our disposal to show His love and preach His
gospel! Come, check it out!
The Problem
Riddled with compromise and chaos, our world is a big mess! Churches are plentiful and varied in their approaches and reach. It seems that the gates of hell are closing in on us in our cities, governments, schools, and homes. And the Church of Jesus Christ seems to have lost sight of something. Jesus said this:
"I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18b)
It isn't up to us to "rethink" church, reconstruct good Bible doctrines, or brainstorm the next best church-growth paradigm. There are significant real issues that this Church of Jesus Christ is supposed to be addressing. And the time is now for us to wake up!
Our cities are overcome with poverty, depression, violence, corruption, and immorality. People are looking for lasting solutions.
The FUEL Phenomenon
The
first Tuesday of February, 2007, at Club Isaiah 61, under the hospices
of Vision of Hope Ministries
and Mr.
Kim Shahan, FUEL had its very first meeting. 40 teenagers showed
up to worship and hear God's powerful Word. By the first Tuesday in
March, 2007, the group had grown to over 400, and security and facilities
had to be acquired right away.
In mid-March, 2007, the crowd was asked to indicate by raising hands if they had contemplated suicide the previous week. Nearly every hand went up. From that moment forward, what we call "the FUEL Phenomenon" began! Revival comes when people repent of their sins and discover God's ceaseless healing and delivering power.
Since March, 2007, Lawton's FUEL has been about the healing and delivering of individuals, and their city. Lawton's problems are no more consequential than those of any other, except that this is OUR city. We live, work, and go to school here. We take seriously the violence, poverty, corruption, and immorality on our streets, in our homes, in our schools, in our government, and in our places of business.
While
safety and security are very serious considerations, and we take them
very seriously, police presence is not the answer to Lawton's problem.
While poverty is an ever-growing cancer that eats away at our Country's
future, more government programs are not the answer. While wrongdoing
in national and local echelons of government, and activism in our courts
create distrust among the People, legislation alone is not the answer.
While popular culture advocates drugs and illicit sex as solutions to
our children's problems, more secular self-esteem-building projects
are not the answer!
At FUEL, we recognize that Jesus Christ is the only One who can speak to each of these problems. In fact, He is the Solution to every individual's need for a Savior and Healer, and every city's Solution for hope and restoration. Without Him at the center, every program, project, philosophy, or person will fail. Jesus is the only Way!
